WORKERS ON ORGANIC FARMS (WWOOF)
Contact: www.wwoof.orgWhat: An umbrella organization for people wishing to work on organic farms. Maintains a database of organic farms that allow you to work for them in exchange for room and board. Who: I am unsure if those under 18 can WWOOF alone. Some farms will accept families. Location: 23 countries have national WWOOF organizations, and WWOOF Independents lists farms in an additional 45 countries. Duration: Depends on the farm. A minimum of one week is required; some farms may have a longer minimum length and some may have a maximum length. Cost/Benefits: You pay between $20-$40 to become a member of WWOOF in a specific country. It costs $30 to become a member of WWOOF Independents. Membership buys you access to information and contact information for hosting farms. Members are suppose to work a suggested six hours daily for six days a week at the hosting farm in exchange for room and board. Actual work expectations and living situations will vary by farm. |
