AVODAH: JEWISH SERVICE CORPS

What:  A Jewish organization that "combines front-line anti-poverty work, Jewish study and activist training, and community building. It provides an opportunity for you to live out and deepen your commitments to Jewish life and social change through a year of work in low-income communities."

Who:  Must be between the ages of 21-26, passionate about working on social justice issues in an urban environment, interested in doing this work from a uniquely Jewish perspective and excited about living and working with people from different backgrounds."

Location:  New York, Washington D.C. and Chicago.

Duration:  One year, beginning in August.

Cost/Benefits:  "There is no cost for AVODAH. Participants receive a monthly stipend to cover food, rent, local travel and other necessities. Health insurance is also provided. In most cases, student loan payments can be deferred during your term of service. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a $1,000 exit stipend. Corps members may also be eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Education award voucher up to $4,725."
