What: A "network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country's needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment."  A government organization that provides Americans with one year volunteer opportunities around the U.S.

Who: Any U.S. citizen 17 or older.

Location: Throughout the U.S., includes Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and Virgin Islands.

Duration: Most programs are for a year.  There are also short-term programs available that are for at least 300 hours of service.

Cost/Benefits:  Full-time members receive living allowance, health care, childcare, and student loan deferment.  Upon completion of service, members receive a $4,725 education award to pay back loans or to use for future schooling ($1000-$2362.50 for part-time members).
